GFWC CT's March Board Meeting
Kathy, Carrie and Grahame attended the GFWC CT's March Board Meeting yesterday in Cromwell. The state's project this year is "Tackling Hunger" - and we heard from Katie Martin, the CSO of Foodshare, which last year distributed more than 11 MILLION meals' worth of food to people in Hartford and Tolland counties. Katie explained to us Foodshare's focus on tackling the systemic, root causes of hunger; couching social work skills such as connecting our hungry neighbors with resources like child care, disability help and employment services with "SWAP" (Supporting Wellness At Pantries), which includes a new stoplight system for food distribution & donations (green = good! yellow = sparingly and red = treats). As a club locally, we are hoping to do more for MACC as we grow, and this information will serve us well in our work. Remember, GFWC CT meetings are open to ALL members of the Manchester Women's Club! We hope you'll consider joining us for District Day on April 13!
